Seven villages at the elbow of Cape Cod make up the Town of Harwich. These are the North, South, East and West Harwiches, Harwich Center, Harwich Port and Pleasant Lake. Here we have miles of windswept, white sand beaches. Nantucket Sound has an abundance of beaches for the salt-water lovers. If you prefer fresh water, we have many beautiful fresh water ponds to choose from.
Three protected harbors offer opportunities for fishing, scuba diving, or boating and sailing, like Wychmere Harbor, one of the most scenic harbors in the world. There are several overlooks on Route 28 from which you can view the harbor activity. Or pack up the family for a day of hiking, biking, bird watching, swimming and sightseeing along the 23 mile bike trail winding through unpsoiled woods, working cranberry bogs and stretches of shimmering ponds.
The seven villages of Harwich offer unique shopping opportunities, historic sites, and sports recreation. Dining establishments cover a range of settings from elegant to take-out. Fresh Atlantic seafood attracts fine diners year-round. Cultural resources abound in the Harwiches, with galleries showcasing their works of fine arts, Brooks Academy Museum displaying historic artifacts local to this area, performing arts at the Harwich Junior Theater, music at the Town Band Concerts and outdoor art shows organized by the local Art Guild.
If you plan on a vacation and are in need of a great place to stay, check out the excellent selection of B & B host homes, old-fashioned country inns and respectfully restored antique houses. Many of the lodgings provide private, self-contained cottages and cabins for weekly rental. And there is always an exceptional selection of comfortable motels, motor courts, hotels, and resorts.
Harwich is busy every season during the year. As Summer fades into Fall, and our beautiful Indian Summer, you may want to experience the slower autumn pace here. Winter, usually mild beacuse of our salt water surroundings, is still active with things to do for the entire family. Our glorious Springtime may be our best kept secret, with lots of pre-summer activities planned. Visit us in any season and experience our special brand of hospitality!
